Amador County - Sutter Gold Mine

Sutter Gold Mine is a hard rock mine located on historic Highway 49 just north of Sutter Creek. Other mines in the area include the Lincoln and Kennedy Mine.

This mine was established in the late 1980s, it is now open for one hour underground tours.

Sutter Gold Mine offers a tour that provides a comprehensive look into the gold mining process and its historical progression from gold panning and hydraulic mining to hard rock techniques.

The one hour tour is a great lesson on gold mining from the earliest days to the present time. You begin by gearing up with hard-hats and tagging in, then stepping aboard the shuttle for a journey deep underground. You will learn about Gold Country geology and mining technology as you traverse beneath thousands of tons of native rock, viewing a variety of mining equipment along the way.
